Three year review letter, 1975

The department would be dull without you
By Jo Spence

Mr S Baker, assistant General Manager, sent this glowing letter of congratulations to Mrs Florrie Verdon at her three year review.

She was praised for her energy and work as well as the contribution she made to the partnerships' democratic activities as a Branch Councillor.  Her department manager is quote as saying "the department would be dull without you."

Attached with the letter was a sheet of privileges [posh word for benefits] after three years membership.  Interesting to compare them against those received today.

Comments/reviews:

I typed this letter for Mr Baker - I am glad there are no spelling mistakes!  I was working as secretary to the Staff Manager, Sue Graham at the time but sometimes I typed some letters for Mr van der Pant or Mr Baker if their secretaries were on holiday.

On the first day of the sales, all the office staff who could be spared used to go down on the shop floor and help out.  I loved it, especially in the China & Glass department.  It was great fun and a good change from office work.
