Stockrooms

Mind your head!
By Jo Spence

The stock-rooms for the toys, gardening and Christmas stationery departments were on the upper floors of Ebenezer House.  Relatively untouched from the original house in many rooms.  With the wallpaper and lino still in place.  Low beams in some areas made storage difficult and extra padding was put on the beams to protect partners.  Notices reminded you to mind your head!

Photo:Outdoor toys stock-room. Note the thick sponge on the beams. Very low ceiling height here.
Photo:It must be winter time as outdoor toys have replaced crackers, ribbons, flowers and tree trims according to the writing on the beams in this area of the stockroom.
Photo:Santas, crackers and decorations stowed away amongst the rafters until the next Xmas.
